Representative Tom Rukavina, Co-Chair of the House Higher Education and Workforce Development Finance and Policy Division, called the joint meeting to order at 1:17 P.M. on Thursday, February 26, 2009, in Room 200 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Co-Chair Rukavina announced the first item on the agenda would be to adopt the Rules Governing Selection of Regent Candidates, a copy of which was provided in member’s packets.

Co-Chair Rukavina invited David Fisher, Chair, Regent Candidate Advisory Council, to begin his presentation.

David Fisher, Chair, Regent Candidate Advisory Council, introduced himself and provided testimony regarding the Council.

Questions and discussion followed.

Co-Chair Rukavina reviewed the Rules.

Co-Chair Pappas moved adoption of the Rules Governing Selection of Regent Candidates.
THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Representative Haws nominated Regent John Frobenius as a candidate for the Sixth Congressional District seat on the Board of Regents. Representative Dettmer, Senator Clark and Senator Senjem seconded the motion.

Co-Chair Rukavina asked for a show of hands. THE MOTION PREVAILED. REGENT FROBENIUS WAS NOMINATED AS A CANDIDATE FOR THE SIXTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT.

Co-Chair Rukavina noted that all members had a copy of an email report from the 4th Congressional District Caucus members indicating their support for Richard Beeson for the Fourth Congressional District seat on the Board of Regents.

Representative Poppe reported that the First Congressional District Caucus members had met and that they would present their report at the next meeting on Tuesday, March 3, 2009.

Co-Chair Rukavina invited the First Congressional District Regent candidates forward to begin their presentations.

Patricia Simmons, current Regent and candidate from the First Congressional District, introduced herself and made her presentation to the Joint Committee.

Randy Simonson, candidate from the First Congressional District, introduced himself and made his presentation to the Joint Committee.

Questions and discussion followed.

Co-Chair Rukavina invited the Seventh Congressional District Regent candidates forward to begin their presentations.

Clyde Allen, current Regent and candidate from the Seventh Congressional District, introduced himself and made his presentation to the Joint Committee.

Anne Rasmusson, candidate from the Seventh Congressional District, introduced herself and made her presentation to the Joint Committee.

Questions and discussion followed.

The meeting adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
