MINUTES
Representative Gene Pelowski, Chair of the State & Local Government Operations, Reform, Technology and Elections Committee, called the meeting to order at 8:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 19, 2009, in Room 200 of the State Office Building.
The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Poppe moved that the minutes of March 18, 2009, be approved. THE MOTION PREVAILED.
Representative Kahn moved that HF817 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance.
Representative Kahn moved to amend HF817 (see attached
H0817A1). THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.
Representative Kahn presented HF817 (Kahn), as amended, a bill for an act relating to elections; expanding requirements for postsecondary institutions to report resident student information to the secretary for state for voter registration purposes; etc.

There were 8 ayes and 10 nays. THE MOTION FAILED.
Representative Kahn renewed the motion that HF817 as amended, be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.
Representative Simon moved that HF1053 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance.
Representative Simon moved to amend HF1053 (see attached
H1053A1). THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.
Representative Simon presented HF1053 (Simon), as amended, a bill for an act relating to elections; requiring certain public officials to provide additional data to the secretary of state for use in maintaining the voter registration system; providing for automatic voter registration of applicants for a driver’s license, instruction permit, or identification card; etc.

Representative Simon moved to amend HF1053, as amended, (amending the previously adopted H1053A1 amendment) as follows:

provide the necessary data and"
THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.
Representative Simon renewed the motion that HF1053, as amended, be recommended
to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.
Chair Pelowski moved that HF13 be recommended to pass and be re-referred to the Committee on Finance.
