MINUTES
Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the K-12 Education Policy & Oversight Committee, unofficially called the fifth meeting to order at 8:35 AM on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 in the Basement hearing room of the State Office Building.

Chair Mariani explained the committee agenda for the week, and announced that the committee would meet in room 200 on Wednesday and Thursday.
Chair Mariani officially called the meeting to order at 8:42 AM. A quorum was present.
Rep. Kath moved that the minutes of January 21, 2009 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE MINUTES WERE ADOPTED.
Mr. Mike Cohen, President of Achieve, Inc., presented on college and career readiness in high schools.

Questions and discussion followed.
Chair Mariani recognized the High School Pages in the audience and welcomed them to the committee and the capitol.
Dr. Kent Pekel, Director of the College Readiness Consortium, University of Minnesota, presented on college readiness in high schools

"The Minnesota Principal’s Academy: Creating Great Schools By Supporting Great Leaders"
Questions and discussion followed.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:05 AM.
