Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the K-12 Education Policy & Oversight Committee, unofficially called the eighteenth meeting to order at 8:35 AM on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 in the basement hearing room of the State Office Building.

Chair Mariani gave an overview of the agenda for the next two days.
Chair Mariani officially called the hearing to order at 8:41 AM.
Rep. Abeler moved that the minutes of February 24, 2009 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE MINUTES WERE ADOPTED.
Ms. Judy Randall, Office of the Legislative Auditor, presented the Charter School Evaluation Report.

Mr. Morgan Brown, Assistant Commissioner, Minnesota Department of Education, responded to questions posed by members.
HF623 (Slocum) - A bill for an act relating to education; modifying charter school provisions; reviving charter school advisory council; amending Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 124D.10.
HF935 (Slocum) – A bill for an act relating to education; modifying charter school provisions; amending Minnesota Statutes 2008, sections 124D.10; 124D.11, subdivision 9.
Chair Mariani moved that HF935 be recommended to pass and referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.
Chair Mariani moved the
H0935DE4 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.
Rep. Slocum presented HF935, as amended.
Mr. Morgan Brown, Assistant Commissioner, Minnesota Department of Education, and Mr. Eugene Piccolo, Executive Director, Minnesota Association of Charter Schools presented HF935, as amended.

Chair Mariani laid HF935 over until the next hearing.
