MINUTES
A quorum was present and Representative Erickson, Chair of the Education Reform Committee, called the meeting to order at 8:16 AM on April 14, 2011, in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.
The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Benson moved that the minutes from the committee meeting on April 12, 2011, be approved. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE MINUTES WERE APPROVED.
SF 170 (Kieffer) Requiring teacher candidates to pass a basic skills test before being granted an initial teaching license.
Chair Erickson moved that SF 170 be recommended to pass and sent to the General Register. Chair Erickson moved the
S0170DE2 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.
Representative Kieffer presented the bill and stood for questions.
Chair Erickson moved to amend orally SF 170 as follows:
Page 1, Lines 12-13, Delete "Persons needing remedial assistance must be successfully remediated before receiving an initial teaching license."
THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Chair Erickson moved that HF 966 be recommended to pass and sent to the General Register. Representative Mariani moved the
H0966A1 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.
