MINUTES

Representative Cheryl Youakim, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:34 PM on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, in Room 5 of the State Office Building. A quorum was present.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Bahr moved to approve the minutes, with a technical correction, for the Monday, February 25, 2019 meeting. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

HF1343 (Morrison) – Sunscreen possession and use at school provided.

Representative Kunesh-Podein moved that HF1343 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill.

Representative Morrison introduced HF1343.

Dr. Kristen Hook, University of Minnesota, testified in support of HF1343.
Dr. Lynda Kauls, University of Minnesota, testified in support of HF1343.

Representative Youakim renewed the motion that HF1343 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill. THE BILL WAS LAID OVER.

HF1026 (Freiberg) – School safety technical assistance center and School Safety Technical Assistance Council extended.

Representative Kunesh-Podein moved that HF1026 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill.

Representative Freiberg introduced HF1026.

Kate Lynne Snyder, Minnesota Department of Education, answered questions about HF1026.
Representative Youakim renewed the motion that HF1026 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill. THE BILL WAS LAID OVER.

HF1111 (Hassan) – Postsecondary education enrollment options eligibility clarified.

Representative Hassan moved that HF1111 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill.

Representative Hassan introduced HF1111.

Leroy West, Summit Academy, testified in support of HF1111.
Anne-Marie Kuiper, Summit Academy, testified in support of HF1111.

HF847 (Her) – High School graduation personal finance required.

Representative Her moved that HF847 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill.

HF249 (Urdahl) – Graduation and civics testing requirements modified to ensure students adequately prepared to be capable citizens able to fully participate in the political process.

Representative Urdahl moved that HF249 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill.

Representative Urdahl moved to adopt the H0249A3 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.
