Representative Cheryl Youakim, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:33 PM on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, in Room 5 of the State Office Building. A quorum was present.

Representative Huot moved to approve the minutes for the Tuesday, February 26, 2019 meeting. THE MOTION PREVAILED.
HF945 (Wazlawik) – Textbook definition modified.
Representative Wazlawik moved that HF945 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill.

Tim Benz, Minnesota Independent School Forum, testified in support of HF945.
Karen Balmer, Minnehaha Academy, testified in support of HF945.
Julie Winn, Minnehaha Academy, testified in support of HF945.
Representative Wazlawik renewed the motion that HF845 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill. THE BILL WAS LAID OVER.
HF428 (Gruenhagen) – Textbook definition modified, and obsolete language deleted.

HF824 (Kunesh-Podein) – Increase Teachers of Color Act funding provided, seeking to double American Indian teachers and teachers of color, reports required, and money appropriated.
Representative Youakim moved that HF824 be referred to the Ways and Means Committee.
Representative Kunesh-Podein introduced HF824.
Violeta Hernandez Espinosa, Minnesota Council on Latino Affairs, Katy Sly, Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans, and Shannon Geshick, Minnesota Indian Affairs Council, testified in support of HF824.
Keenan Jones, Hopkins School District, testified in support of HF824.
Angelina Momanyi, Anoka-Hennepin School District, testified in support of HF824.
Daisy Aguilar, Parents in Community Action Head Start, testified in support of HF824.
