It’s been a busy week leading up to today’s third committee deadline which is something of a milestone each session because it means lawmakers transition from their consistent schedule of weekly meetings to a much less predictable period when long work days are accompanied by the dreaded phrase “recess to the call of the chair.”
After today, the one remaining deadline set in stone is the Legislature’s May 17 adjournment date, and there is a lot of distance that must be bridged between the omnibus finance bills that began moving through the House this week and their Senate companions.

Long floor sessions likely followed by even longer conference committee hearings lie ahead if the Legislature is to complete its work by then.
