House Majority Leader Ryan Winkler (DFL-Golden Valley) plans to be on the ballot in November 2022 — but for a different role.

Winkler announced Tuesday morning he is running for Hennepin County attorney.

On his Twitter account, Winkler said, “We need progressive leadership that can bring people together around a common vision for public safety, police accountability, and criminal justice reform. I will bring that leadership to the County Attorney's office.”

Winkler has served seven non-consecutive terms in the House, and has been the majority leader since 2019. He sponsored the 2021 bill passed by the House to legalize recreational marijuana.
