Index to today's Journal

In accordance with the Constitution and the Laws of the State of Minnesota, the members-elect of the House of Representatives assembled in the Chamber of the House of Representatives in the Capitol in Saint Paul on Tuesday, the third day of January, 1995.

At the hour of twelve o'clock noon and pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 1994, Section 3.05, the Honorable Joan Anderson Growe, Secretary of State, called the members-elect to order and appointed the Honorable Mary Murphy from District 8A as Clerk pro tempore.

Prayer was offered by Monsignor James D. Habiger, Executive Director of the Minnesota Catholic Conference, Saint Paul, Minnesota.

The Clerk pro tempore called the roll by legislative district in numerical order, and the following members-elect presented proof of their eligibility to be sworn in and seated as members of the House of Representatives:

The oath of office was administered to Speaker-elect Irv Anderson by the Honorable District Judge Peter N. Hemstad. The Speaker expressed his appreciation for the honor bestowed upon him.

Carruthers offered the following resolution and moved its adoption:

Resolved, that the Chief Clerk be instructed to inform the Senate that the House is duly organized pursuant to law and to invite the Senate to meet with the House in Joint Convention at 11:45 a.m., Wednesday, January 18, 1995, to receive the message of the Governor which will be delivered at 12:00 noon.

Resolved, that an invitation be extended to the Governor to address a Joint Convention of the House and Senate to be held in the House Chamber on Wednesday, January 18, 1995, said Joint Convention to convene at 11:45 a.m., and said message to be delivered at 12:00 noon; and that the Speaker appoint a committee of five members of the House to act with a similar committee of the Senate to extend the invitation to the Governor and to notify him that the House of Representatives is now duly organized pursuant to law.

The motion prevailed and the resolution was adopted.

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Minnesota, the Senate concurring:

1. Upon its adjournment on January 4, 1995, the Senate may set its next day of meeting more than three days after the day of adjournment.

2. Pursuant to the Minnesota Constitution, Article IV, Section 12, the House of Representatives consents to the adjournment of the Senate for more than three days.
