1.5TRAFFIC REGULATIONS

1.6    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 169.34, is amended to read:
1.7169.34 PROHIBITIONS; STOPPING, PARKING.
1.8    Subdivision 1. Prohibitions. (a) No person shall stop, stand, or park a vehicle,
1.9except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the
1.10directions of a police officer or traffic-control device, in any of the following places:
1.11    (1) on a sidewalk;
1.12    (2) in front of a public or private driveway;
1.13    (3) within an intersection;
1.14    (4) within ten feet of a fire hydrant;
1.15    (5) on a crosswalk;
1.16    (6) within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection;
1.17    (7) within 30 feet upon the approach to any flashing beacon, stop sign, or
1.18traffic-control signal located at the side of a roadway;
1.19    (8) between a safety zone and the adjacent curb or within 30 feet of points on the
1.20curb immediately opposite the ends of a safety zone, unless a different length is indicated
1.21by signs or markings;
1.22    (9) within 50 feet of the nearest rail of a railroad crossing;
1.23    (10) within 20 feet of the driveway entrance to any fire station and on the side of
1.24a street opposite the entrance to any fire station within 75 feet of said entrance when
1.25properly signposted;
1.26    (11) alongside or opposite any street excavation or obstruction when such stopping,
1.27standing, or parking would obstruct traffic;
2.1    (12) on the roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parked at the edge or curb of a
2.2street;
2.3    (13) upon any bridge or other elevated structure upon a highway or within a highway
2.4tunnel, except as otherwise provided by ordinance;
2.5    (14) at any place where official signs prohibit stopping.
2.6    (b) No person shall move a vehicle not owned by such person into any prohibited
2.7area or away from a curb such distance as is unlawful.
2.8    (c) No person shall, for camping purposes, leave or park a travel trailer on or within
2.9the limits of any highway or on any highway right-of-way, except where signs are erected
2.10designating the place as a campsite.
2.11    (d) No person shall stop or park a vehicle on a street or highway when directed or
2.12ordered to proceed by any peace officer invested by law with authority to direct, control,
2.13or regulate traffic.
2.14    Subd. 2. Violation; penalty for owner or lessee. (a) If a motor vehicle is stopped,
2.15standing, or parked in violation of subdivision 1, the owner of the vehicle, or for a leased
2.16motor vehicle the lessee of the vehicle, is guilty of a petty misdemeanor.
2.17    (b) The owner or lessee may not be fined under paragraph (a) if (1) another person
2.18is convicted for, or pleads guilty to, that violation, or (2) the motor vehicle was stolen at
2.19the time of the violation.
2.20    (c) Paragraph (a) does not apply to a lessor of a motor vehicle if the lessor keeps a
2.21record of the name and address of the lessee.
2.22    (d) Paragraph (a) does not prohibit or limit the prosecution of a motor vehicle
2.23operator for violating subdivision 1.
2.24    (e) A violation under paragraph (a) does not constitute grounds for revocation or
2.25suspension of the owner's or lessee's driver's license."
