1.4    "Section 4. Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 326.242, subdivision 3d, is amended to
1.5read:
1.6    Subd. 3d. Power limited technician. (a) Except as otherwise provided by law, no
1.7person shall install, alter, repair, plan, lay out, or supervise the installing, altering, or
1.8repairing of electrical wiring, apparatus, or equipment for technology circuits or systems
1.9unless:
1.10    (1) the person is licensed by the board as a power limited technician; and
1.11    (2) the electrical work is:
1.12    (i) for a licensed contractor and the person is an employee, partner, or officer of,
1.13or is the licensed contractor; or
1.14    (ii) performed under the supervision of a master electrician or power limited
1.15technician also employed by the person's employer on technology circuits, systems,
1.16apparatus, equipment, or facilities owned or leased by the employer that are located within
1.17the limits of property owned or leased, operated, and maintained by the employer.
1.18    (b) An applicant for a power limited technician's license shall (1) be a graduate of a
1.19four-year electrical course in an accredited college or university; or (2) have had at least 36
1.20months' experience, acceptable to the board, in planning for, laying out, supervising, and
1.21installing wiring, apparatus, or equipment for power limited systems, provided however,
1.22that the board may by rule provide for the allowance of up to 12 months (2,000 hours)
1.23of experience credit for successful completion of a two-year post high school electrical
1.24course or other technical training approved by the board.
1.25    (c) The board may initially set experience requirements without rulemaking, but
1.26must adopt rules before July 1, 2004.
2.1    (d) Licensees must attain eight hours of continuing education acceptable to the
2.2board every renewal period.
2.3    (e) A person who has submitted an application by June 30, 2003, to take the alarm
2.4and communications examination administered by the board, and who has achieved a
2.5minimal score of 70 percent on the examination by September 30, 2003, may obtain a
2.6power limited technician license without further examination by submitting an application
2.7and a license fee of $30.
2.8    (f) A company holding an alarm and communication license as of June 30, 2003,
2.9may designate one person who may obtain a power limited technician license without
2.10passing an examination administered by the board by submitting an application and
2.11license fee of $30.
2.12    (g) A person who has submitted an application by September 30, 2005December
2.1331, 2007, to take the power limited technician examination administered by the
2.14boarddepartment is not required to meet the qualifications set forth in paragraph (b).
2.15EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment."
