1.3    "Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 97B.035, subdivision 2, is amended to read:
1.4    Subd. 2. Possession of crossbows. A person may not possess transport a crossbow
1.5outdoors or in a motor vehicle during the open season for any game, unless the crossbow
1.6is unstrung, and in a case or in a closed trunk of a motor vehicle.

1.7    Sec. 3. Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 97B.311, is amended to read:
1.897B.311 DEER SEASONS AND RESTRICTIONS.
1.9    (a) The commissioner may, by rule, prescribe restrictions and designate areas where
1.10deer may be taken, including hunter selection criteria for special hunts established under
1.11section 97A.401, subdivision 4. The commissioner may, by rule, prescribe the open
1.12seasons for deer within the following periods:
1.13    (1) taking with firearms, other than muzzle-loading firearms, between November 1
1.14and December 15;
1.15    (2) taking with muzzle-loading firearms between September 1 and December 31; and
1.16    (3) taking by archery between September 1 and December 31; and
1.17    (4) taking by crossbow as permitted under section 97B.035, subdivision 1, between
1.18the opening of the firearms deer season and December 31.
1.19    (b) Notwithstanding paragraph (a), the commissioner may establish special seasons
1.20within designated areas at any time of year.
1.21    (c) Smokeless gunpowder may not be used in a muzzle-loader during the
1.22muzzle-loader season."
