1.2Delete everything after the enacting clause and insert:

1.3    "Section 1. [43A.184] SICK LEAVE FOR VETERANS WITH
1.4SERVICE-RELATED DISABILITIES.
1.5On a form prescribed by the commissioner, a state employee who is a veteran with a
1.6service-related disability may apply to the employee's appointing authority for additional
1.7sick leave to receive treatment for the disability, as provided in this section. The employee
1.8must qualify as a veteran under section 197.447, and have a sick leave balance that is
1.9insufficient to receive treatment for the disability. If the appointing authority approves the
1.10request, the appointing authority shall authorize 40 hours of sick leave for the employee in
1.11the current fiscal year. The appointing authority may approve sick leave for an employee
1.12under this section one time in each fiscal year.
1.13EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective July 1, 2009."
