1.3Page 36, after line 6, insert:
1.4 "Sec. 18. Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 85.015, subdivision 2, is amended to read:
1.5 Subd. 2.
Casey Jones Trail, Murray, Redwood, and Pipestone, and Rock
1.6Counties. (a) The trail shall originate in Lake Shetek State Park in Murray County
1.7and include the six-mile loop between Currie in Murray County and Lake Shetek State
1.8Park. From there, the first half of the trail shall trail southwesterly to Slayton in Murray
1.9County; thence westerly to the point of intersection with the most easterly terminus of
1.10the state-owned abandoned railroad right-of-way, commonly known as the Casey Jones
1.11unit; thence westerly along said Casey Jones unit to Pipestone in Pipestone County; thence
1.12southwesterly to Split Rock Creek State Park in Pipestone County
,; thence southeasterly
1.13to Blue Mounds State Park in Rock County; thence southerly to Luverne and Schoneman
1.14Park in Rock County, and there terminate. The second half of the trail shall commence
1.15in Lake Shetek State Park in Murray County and trail northeasterly to Walnut Grove in
1.16Redwood County; thence northeasterly to Redwood Falls in Redwood County to join with
1.17the Minnesota River State Trail.
1.18(b) The trail shall be developed as a multiuse, multiseasonal, dual treadway trail.
1.19Nothing herein shall abrogate the purpose for which the Casey Jones unit was originally
1.20established, and the use thereof shall be concurrent.
1.21 Sec. 19. Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 85.015, is amended by adding a subdivision
1.22to read:
1.23 Subd. 26. Des Moines River Valley Trail, Jackson, Cottonwood, and Murray
1.24Counties. The trail shall originate in Jackson County at the Minnesota-Iowa border and
1.25connect with the Dickinson Trail in Mini-Wakan State Park in Iowa. To the greatest extent
1.26possible, the trail shall follow the Des Moines River Valley, extending northwesterly
2.1through Jackson County to Kilen Woods State Park, through Cottonwood County, and into
2.2Murray County. The trail shall terminate at Casey Jones Trail in Murray County."
2.3Page 61, after line 12, insert:
2.4 "Sec. 59.
TRAIL PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT.
2.5(a) The commissioner of natural resources shall work with Friends of the Casey
2.6Jones Trail in planning and developing the extension under section 18.
2.7(b) The commissioner of natural resources shall work with Friends of the Jackson
2.8County Trails in planning and developing the Des Moines River Valley Trail under section
2.919."
2.10Renumber the sections in sequence and correct the internal references
