FEASIBILITY PILOT PROJECT FOR CANCER SURVEILLANCE.
1.5The commissioner of health must provide a grant to the Hennepin County Medical
1.6Center for a one-year feasibility pilot project to collect occupational history and residential
1.7history data from newly diagnosed cancer patients at the Hennepin County Medical
1.8Center's cancer center. Funding for this grant shall come from the Department of Health's
1.9current resources for the Minnesota Cancer Surveillance System. Under this pilot project,
1.10Hennepin County Medical Center will design an expansion of its existing cancer registry
1.11to include the collection of additional data, including the cancer patient's occupational
1.12history, residential history, and military service history. Patient consent is required for
1.13collection of these additional data. The data collection expansion may also include the
1.14cancer patient's possible toxic environmental exposure history, if know. The purpose of
1.15this pilot project is to determine the following:
1.16(1) the feasibility of collecting these data on a statewide scale;
1.17(2) the potential design of a self-administered patient questionnaire template; and
1.18(3) necessary qualifications for staff who will collect these data."
