1.3Page 23, after line 4, insert:
1.4 "Sec. 36. Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 169.824, subdivision 2, is amended to read:
1.5 Subd. 2.
Gross vehicle weight of all axles; credit for idle reduction technology.
1.6 (a) The gross vehicle weight of all axles of a vehicle or combination of vehicles must
1.7not exceed:
1.8 (1) 80,000 pounds for any vehicle or combination of vehicles on all streets and
1.9highways, unless posted at a lower axle weight under section
169.87, subdivision 1; and
1.10 (2) 88,000 pounds for any vehicle or combination of vehicles with six or more
1.11axles while exclusively engaged in hauling livestock on all state trunk highways other
1.12than interstate highways, if the vehicle has a permit under section
169.86, subdivision 5,
1.13paragraph (j).
1.14 (b) Notwithstanding the maximum weight provisions of this section, and in order to
1.15promote the reduction of fuel use and emissions, the maximum gross vehicle weight limits
1.16and the axle weight limits for any motor vehicle subject to sections
169.80 to
169.88 and
1.17equipped with idle reduction technology or emissions-reduction technology must be
1.18increased by the amount of weight necessary to compensate for the weight of the idle
1.19reduction technology or emissions-reduction technology, not to exceed
400 550 pounds.
1.20At the request of an authorized representative of the Department of Transportation or the
1.21Department of Public Safety, the vehicle operator shall provide proof that the vehicle is
1.22equipped with this technology through documentation or demonstration.
1.23EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment."
1.24Renumber the sections in sequence and correct the internal references
1.25Amend the title accordingly
