1.2Delete everything after the enacting clause and insert:

1.3    "Section 1. [10.555] CESAR CHAVEZ DAY.
1.4(a) March 31 shall be known as Cesar Chavez Day to celebrate the growing Latino
1.5community in Minnesota. Latinos are a rapidly growing demographic group in the
1.6state. Dedicating March 31 of each year as Cesar Chavez Day provides the citizens of
1.7Minnesota the opportunity to learn about and appreciate the Latino community and their
1.8contributions to our state.
1.9(b) As a community organizer, Chavez improved the lives and working conditions
1.10of millions of Latinos nationwide. He dedicated his life to advocating for labor rights,
1.11political representation for ethnic minorities, environmental justice, registering voters,
1.12and improving literacy for farm workers."
1.13Delete the title and insert:
1.15relating to state government; designating March 31 as Cesar Chavez Day;
1.16proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 10."
