1.7The commissioner of education must prepare and submit to the education policy
1.8and finance committees of the legislature by January 15, 2015, a written report on K-12
1.9students' experience with physical education, consistent with this section. Among other
1.10physical education-related issues, the report must include:
1.11(1) the number of minutes per day and frequency per week students in each
1.12grade level, kindergarten through grade 8, receive physical education and identify the
1.13requirements in high school physical education in terms of semesters, quarters, or school
1.14years;
1.15(2) the measures and data used to assess students' level of fitness and the uses made
1.16of the fitness data;
1.17(3) the educational preparation of physical education instructors and the proportion
1.18of time certified physical education teachers provide physical education instruction;
1.19(4) the amount of time and number of days per week each grade level, kindergarten
1.20through grade 6, receives recess;
1.21(5) whether high school students are allowed to substitute other activities for
1.22required physical education, and, if so, which activities qualify;
1.23(6) the number or percentage of high school students who earn required physical
1.24education credits online; and
1.25(7) whether schools offer before or after school physical activities opportunities in
1.26each grade level, kindergarten through grade 8, and in high school, and, if so, what are the
1.27opportunities.
2.1EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment."
