The Great Seal of Minnesota has been in

existence for more than 140 years - even

before Minnesota became a state. Originally

the Territorial Seal, it was designated

the official seal by the Legislature in 1861.

It was designed by Capt. Seth Eastman,

a commanding officer at

Fort Snelling.
