The Honeycrisp apple was named the
State Fruit in 2006. The idea came from
the fourth-grade students at
Andersen Elementary School in Bayport, Minn.
This variety of apple, known for its crisp texture
and sweet juice, was developed by the
University of Minnesota, and was
formally introduced in 1991.
