The blueberry muffin was designated the

State Muffin in 1988.

It was the idea of a class of third graders

from South Terrace Elementary School in

Carlton, Minnesota. They reasoned that

blueberries are plentiful in northern Minnesota,

and farmers across the state grow wheat.
