Legislative Update

1

It’s crunch time here at the Capitol. As of today, April 11, we’ve hit our third and final budget deadline—a key checkpoint in the legislative session. This means all spending bills must be approved in their respective committees to stay alive and move forward in the process. In plain terms: if it’s not through committee by today, it’s not moving this year.

We’re now deep into budget negotiations, and the focus is clear: building a responsible state budget without raising taxes on hardworking Minnesotans. Families, farmers, and small businesses across our state are already stretched thin, and the last thing they need is more burdens from government. It’s time for St. Paul to practice some fiscal restraint. Minnesotans are doing more with less—it’s time the state did the same.

After today’s deadline, legislators will head back to their districts for a short spring recess. I’ll be using that time to hear directly from you—what’s working, what isn’t, and what you expect as we head into the home stretch. Then on April 21, we return to the Capitol ready to finalize a budget that respects your hard-earned tax dollars.

We’ve got a lot of work ahead, but I’m committed to staying focused, working smart, and delivering results. Let’s get it done!

Honoring Our Heroes at the Capitol

1

This week, the Capitol rotunda was filled with something truly powerful—gratitude. At Veterans Day on the Hill, I had the great honor of meeting with incredible members of the Elk River Legion: Von and Michele Smith, Greg Crow, and Jerry Takle. Standing alongside them in a space dedicated to service and remembrance was a moment I will not forget.

The event was filled with moving stories, heartfelt tributes, and a deep sense of unity. It was a reminder that the freedoms we enjoy each day are not by chance—they’re the result of extraordinary courage and sacrifice.

To every veteran: thank you. Thank you for your service, your strength, and your unwavering love for this country. We are forever in your debt, and it’s our responsibility as legislators—and as fellow citizens—to ensure that you receive the honor, care, and respect you deserve.
