ST. PAUL – State Representative Jeff Witte, R-Lakeville, received the Legislator Recognition Award during a luncheon last Thursday afternoon hosted by the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association (MCPA). According to the MCPA, Witte was recognized for his leadership and commitment to addressing and advancing public policy directly impacting law enforcement and the communities they are sworn to protect and serve.
“It is an honor to be recognized for my work supporting the law enforcement community as they protect and serve Minnesotans,” said Witte. “As someone who put on the uniform every day for 27 years, I have been able to bring a unique perspective to issues facing law enforcement here in St. Paul. Although my time in uniform is over, my watch never ends and my service to the community never ends.”
House Republican Leader Lisa Demuth, R-Cold Spring, offered her congratulations to Rep. Witte as well.
“Representative Witte’s commitment to law enforcement and their families has been clear from his first day in St. Paul,” said Demuth. “His hard work on important issues like increasing criminal penalties for straw purchasers and efforts to provide additional resources to law enforcement to help them do their jobs safely deserves praise. He should also be commended for his compassionate and thoughtful leadership in the days and weeks following the Burnsville tragedy earlier this year where he served as a source of comfort and unity for legislators and the entire South Metro community.”
Rep. Jeff Witte represents House District 57B, which includes most of Lakeville. Before his time in the legislature, he spent 27 years as a law enforcement officer for the City of Burnsville.
