PRESTON, MN—Representative Greg Davids, R-Preston, issued the following statement regarding Monday's news that Governor Dayton has signed the 1332 Waiver that will ensure federal funding for Minnesota's premium stabilization program.
"Republican-led reforms are creating better choices and lower premiums for tens of thousands of Minnesotans. I applaud Governor Dayton for locking in substantial federal funding for the premium stabilization program, which ensures families will see savings and better plan options next year. Minnesota will not wait for Washington to fix the health care mess Democrats created—we will continue the important work next session of bringing down costs and improving access to better health care for all Minnesotans."
“Signing this waiver does not end the fight for adequate MinnesotaCare funding. Minnesota lawmakers are united in the belief that the federal government should reward, not punish, states for bringing down costs through innovative programs.”
Rep. Davids was the chief author of House File 5, the premium stabilization bill that passed the House and Senate with bipartisan support. Governor Dayton refused to sign the bill, opting to allow it to become law without his signature. The Republican-led program has earned national recognition, and earlier this month the Department of Commerce confirmed that premium costs are expected to stay steady or drop for nearly all Minnesotans on the individual market after four years of double-digit increases.
