ST. PAUL – A proposal that would construct a veterans’ home in Fillmore County took another important step forward recently, as the Minnesota House State Government Finance Committee held a hearing to learn more about local progress on the project.
The bill is being sponsored by State Representative Greg Davids (R-Preston).
“It was an informal process so the committee could see where things were at,” Davids said. “Obviously I’m very excited about the opportunity to secure funding for this needed veterans home in southeastern Minnesota.”
Davids said he was joined by Fillmore County Commissioners as well as local veterans at the hearing.
Davids’ bill calls for a facility for eligible veterans and their spouses. The proposal would appropriate $10 million in state bonding proceeds to be used with other matching funds between local, federal and private sources.
The Minnesota House is expected to decide later this session whether or not to allocate resources for the construction of a veterans’ home in Minnesota.
