REP. DAVIDS SUPPORTS TRANSPORTATION FUNDING PROPOSAL

Friday, June 25, 2021

ST. PAUL – By a vote of 112-21, the Minnesota House has approved legislation that will fund Minnesota’s road and bridge needs for the next two years. State Representative Greg Davids (R-Preston) voted in favor of the measure.

“This plan was able to put more money into transportation without raising taxes,” Davids said. “We were able to eliminate the $1.6 billion in tax hikes passed by House Democrats in their transportation bill during the 2021 regular session, which is great news for Minnesota’s drivers.”

Of particular importance to Rep. Davids was the inclusion of transportation funding for Greater Minnesota communities. The approved plan includes funding for the popular Small Cities Assistance Program, which provides a revenue stream for towns to make street repairs. Under this provision, Fillmore County cities will receive more than $320,000 in funding while cities in Houston County will receive more than $163,000.

Townships have a dedicated source of state revenue to tackle their road needs. In addition to these amounts, townships will also receive one-time improvement funding under this transportation funding plan. In Houston County, it is scheduled to receive more than $278,000 from the State for township roads, and will also receive a one-time funding infusion of more than $96,000. Fillmore County is scheduled for more than $528,000, and its one-time amount will total more than $182,000.

“There’s no doubt we need to keep up with maintenance on our roads and bridges in southeastern Minnesota, and this transportation funding proposal will help us do just that,” Davids said.
