2022 LEGISLATIVE SESSION IS UNDERWAY

Monday, January 31, 2022

ST. PAUL – On January 31, the Minnesota House of Representatives gathered to begin the 2022 legislative session. State Representative Greg Davids (R-Preston) expects there will be plenty of topics up for discussion in the coming weeks.

“Though the second year of session during a legislative biennium is typically shorter in length than the first year, there is still much to accomplish over the next few months,” Davids said.

Davids noted that even though it’s not a budget year, lawmakers will have to come to some conclusions on how to allocate a projected $7.746 billion budget surplus.

“I believe we need to find more ways to provide tax relief to working families and senior citizens,” Davids said. “We should be exploring ways that allow residents to keep more of their money.”

Davids also noted that this is a bonding year in the legislature, which means the House and Senate will try to come together and agree to a capital investment plan that will help fund construction projects across Minnesota.

Davids said public safety topics will also be front and center following nonsensical calls by left-wing radicals to ‘defund the police’ while violent crime continues to skyrocket in the Metro Area.

While these two areas will likely receive most of the headlines this session, Rep. Davids encourages residents to contact him on any legislative item. He can be reached at rep.greg.davids@house.mn or by phone at 651-296-9278.
