ST. PAUL – In an effort to further thank the men and women who fought for our freedoms, State Representative Greg Davids (R-Preston) is sponsoring legislation that would improve funding for the construction of three new veterans homes in Minnesota – including one in Fillmore County.
“Without our veterans, we do not have a country,” Davids said. “It’s my hope that this added funding will make the living experience at these facilities even greater than our veterans are currently expecting.”
Davids’ bill would use $16.5 million in capital investment proceeds to make improvements to veterans homes in Fillmore County, Montevideo, and Bemidji. Rep. Davids previously authored the law that provided state funding for the construction of the three facilities.
As part of this new bill, Davids said nearly $7 million would be sent to the Fillmore County veterans home. The money would be used to design, construct, and furnish enhancements, including but not limited to a dedicated access drive for the facility, a maintenance building, an entrance canopy, three season porches, a transfer garage, a new roofing system, and other exterior and interior upgrades and improvements.
“Our veterans are the best, and they deserve the very best,” Davids concluded.
