ST. PAUL – Thanks to the hard work and persistence of State Representative Greg Davids (R-Preston), area nursing homes began receiving new and critical funding this month.
Last session, a $300 million nursing home package was unanimously approved by the Minnesota House. Davids said this occurred after House Republicans began pressuring Governor Tim Walz and the House Democrat majority, who previously dedicated just $3.9 million to new nursing home funding in their original budget proposals for the new biennium.
“We have nursing homes in this state that have taken out financial loans to keep their doors open, and that is just unacceptable.” Davids said. “While this new revenue doesn’t completely solve the problems our facilities are facing, I’m hopeful it will make it a bit easier for them to provide care for our aging loved ones.”
Davids noted how local care centers will benefit under this new law:
