REP. DAVIDS BILL HONORING FALLEN OFFICER JASON MEYER APPROVED IN MINNESOTA HOUSE

Thursday, April 10, 2025

ST. PAUL – By a unanimous vote, the Minnesota House of Representatives approved legislation chief authored by State Representative Greg Davids (R-Preston) that honors the life and sacrifice made by former Grand Meadow Police Officer Jason Meyer.

Davids’ bill designates a stretch of U.S. Highway 63 south of Racine as "Officer Jason B. Meyer Memorial Highway."

“This memorial is long overdue for a hero who died while trying to help others,” Davids said.

Officer Meyer was killed in the line of duty in 1999 in a single-car crash while responding to a call for assistance from a deputy in a neighboring agency. He lost control of his vehicle while rounding a corner from Minnesota Highway 16 onto U.S. Highway 63, striking a utility pole while skidding sideways.

Meyer had served with the Grand Meadow Police Department for only six months when the crash occurred. He was only 28 years old.

Davids said he was pleased with the overwhelming House support for the legislation.

“Officer Meyer’s widow testified in favor of this bill in our Minnesota House transportation committee and did a great job,” Davids said. “He deserves to be memorialized, as our state will always be grateful for her husband’s sacrifice.”

Davids’ bill now heads to the Minnesota Senate for its approval.
