SAINT PAUL, MINN. – Today, State Rep. Frank Hornstein (DFL – Minneapolis) and State Sen. Scott Dibble (DFL-Minneapolis) sent a letter to Metropolitan Council Chairwoman Alene Tchourumoff and Met Council Member Gail Dorfman endorsing the request of local Minneapolis residents seeking a third-party, independent study of damaging vibrations that would be caused by South West Light Rail Trains in their residences.
“Just like anyone about to undergo a major medical procedure, these residents simply want to make sure they have a second opinion about how the current plan for SWLRT will impact their lives,” said Rep. Hornstein. “Since there is a pause of several months in the process for new bids and the environmental assessment for the crash wall, there is adequate time to perform this study. It is a reasonable request and it should be accommodated.”
The group of residents from the Calhoun Isles Condo Association will present their concerns tomorrow at 2:00pm during a meeting of the Legislative Commission on Metropolitan Government. The Commission meets in Room 1200 of the Minnesota Senate Building.
“A thorough and transparent analysis and process is a reasonable request. I hope the Met Council will see that an independent vibration study makes sense during this interim period,” said Sen. Dibble. “Making sure we have all the facts about vibration impacts now may well alleviate financial and other hardships for all stakeholders.”
