Minnesotans 16+ Eligible for COVID Vaccine

Since my recent update on the vaccine eligibility in our state, we already have an exciting change. Starting today, all Minnesotans age 16 and older are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. While eligible, it’s still not the case that doses are readily available, and many locations are fully booked for appointments for the time being. An increased supply of vaccines is expected from the federal government in early April, so look for more opportunities to get your first dose in the coming weeks. 

At-risk Minnesotans are still being prioritized, so patience is key as we wait our turns.

If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, I highly encourage you to check out Minnesota’s COVID-19 Vaccine Connector, a tool to help people find out when, where, and how to get a vaccine. It can let you know when you’re eligible to be vaccinated, connect you to resources to schedule a vaccine appointment, and alert you if there are vaccine opportunities nearby. To sign up, visit mn.gov/vaccineconnector or call 833-431-2053. Minnesotans can also contact their healthcare provider, local pharmacy or use the Vaccine Locator Map to search for vaccine providers in their area.

House DFL’s Budget for Minnesota

Last week was a busy one at the Minnesota House, with us passing several important bills and releasing the DFL budget proposal ahead of this week’s Easter and Passover break. When we return, the latter half of the legislative session will see more time spent forming the bills that will be our starting points in negotiations with the Republican-controlled Senate. For my part as the Chair of the State Government Finance and Elections Committee, I’ll be working with a budget of over $990 million to invest in a functioning and responsive Minnesota.

Our budget proposal prioritizes assisting those impacted by COVID-19, and includes significant investments in students, workers, families, and small businesses. 

Supporting Women, Workers, and Frontline Heroes

The bills we passed off the House floor last week were reflective of the values proposed in our budget, and included the Preventing Discrimination Act, and legislation extending worker’s compensation benefits for public safety and health care workers, providing assistance for laid off hospitality and service sector workers, and establishing Earned Sick and Safe Time for all Minnesotans.

Too many Minnesotans have to decide between a paycheck or taking care of a loved one or themselves. Regardless of whether we’re in a pandemic, staying home when we’re sick makes sense, and employees deserve the economic freedom to do so when they need to. Under this legislation, workers would earn at least one hour of paid Earned Sick and Safe Time for every 30 hours worked, up to at least 48 hours per year. Minnesotans can use this time to tend to their own physical or mental health needs, or a family member’s.
