Legislative Update from Rep. Michael V. Nelson

Friday, April 19, 2024
Rep. Nelson

Friends and neighbors,

With just over a month to go, our work in the Labor Committee is beginning to wind down. Currently, we’re putting together a supplemental budget bill to continue to strengthen worker protections for Minnesotans.

On the House Floor, we passed policies to protect victims of crime, open doors for more special education teachers, and preserve the integrity of our elections while making them more accessible - and that’s just the briefest of previews of what we voted on.

Zero-Emissions Transit

This week in the Transportation committee, we heard legislation from my colleague Rep. Fue Lee to transition to zero-emissions transit buses.

It wasn’t too terribly long ago that the metro area had a zero-emissions system – street cars! Rep. Lee’s plan to convert all metro transit buses to zero-emissions – not just electric – is a necessary step towards fighting climate change and crafting a cleaner future for Minnesotans. I can’t wait to support it on the House floor.

Minnesota Values Project Survey

Almost seven years ago, the Minnesota House DFL started the Minnesota Values Project (also known as MVP) as a partnership between Minnesotans, elected officials and organizations to create a shared vision for the future of our state. Working together, we’ve strengthened our communities by improving education opportunities, making affordable health care a reality, and increasing economic prosperity for all Minnesotans.

Through this project, we have facilitated hundreds of meaningful conversations with people across all of Minnesota about their priorities. We’re continuing this work and want to engage with as many Minnesotans as possible. As we continue the 2024 legislative session, I want to hear more perspectives and feedback from Minnesotans. As part of this effort, you’re invited to take the new Minnesota Values Project survey.

The survey only takes a few minutes, and as we build a shared vision for our state, your input is crucial in this process. I look forward to hearing from you

Veterans Day at the Capitol

On Wednesday, Veterans and supporters poured into the Capitol to participate in the annual Veterans Day on the Hill. Thank you to all who joined to advocate for veterans’ issues, meet with legislators and attend the State Capitol rotunda rally. And most importantly, thank you for your service.
