ST. PAUL, MN—Rep. Pat Garofalo, R-Farmington, Chair of the House Job Growth and Energy Affordability Committee, issued the following statement regarding today's court ruling striking down Minnesota's sprinkler mandate on some new homes. The stricken requirement was implemented via administrative rule rather than legislation.
"Today's decision is a victory for common sense," Garofalo said. "The Dayton administration tried and has now failed to implement this nonsensical requirement in order to appease interest groups. I'm grateful to the courts for once again giving the executive branch a reminder that things like this should be done through legislation rather than abusing agency rulemaking authority."
