SAINT PAUL- Rep. Pat Garofalo (R- Farmington) issued the following statement regarding Governor Mark Dayton's vow on Wednesday to appeal the Minnesota 8th circuit court's ruling that the Minnesota law restricting the import of coal powered electricity was unconstitutional. The state of North Dakota had sued Minnesota, arguing that the law overstepped state authority by restricting interstate commerce.
"Once again Governor Dayton has demonstrated his preference to waste taxpayer money over using common sense, especially when it comes to regulating the energy industry," said Garofalo. "This law does nothing to improve air quality or carbon emissions; it simply makes power more expensive for Minnesotans and restricts commerce. I renew my call asking Governor Dayton to think of the families who will have to pay his legal bill. I ask that he stop expending state resources in continuing to fight this fruitless legal battle."
