SAINT PAUL, MN—This morning, the Minnesota House Republicans passed their supplemental budget bill combining health and human services, state government, and public safety bills. Despite a $900 million surplus, the bill passed today relies on funding cuts that would cripple Minnesota's health care enrollment system. It fails to address critical needs in Minnesota's safety net, including the loss of caregivers in our safety net due to low wages, a crisis in capacity and safety in our mental health safety net, and the lack of affordable child care across our state.
State Rep. Tina Liebling (DFL-Rochester) released the following statement:
“With the passage of this bill, we again see the priority that House Republicans place on tax cuts for the wealthy when Minnesota has so many needs. Our quality of life and sense of community is among the highest in nation because we try to lift people up, including those who care for our loved ones. The bill passed by the GOP House majority does the opposite. It gives false hope to our caregivers by setting up a fund that would never receive a dime, attempts to dismantle our health insurance enrollment system, and brings Washington style abortion politics to our state. The people of Minnesota deserve better.”
Rep. Liebling is the DFL-Health Care Lead on the House Committee on Health and Human Services Finance. Rep. Liebling can be contacted by email at rep.tina.liebling@house.mn or phone at 651-296-7173.
