SAINT PAUL, Minn. – As part of the Minnesota House 2019 Mini-Session, the Health and Human Services Finance Division will hold a public hearing on the University of Minnesota Rochester campus Wednesday at 2 p.m.
The official meeting of the committee, chaired by Rep. Tina Liebling (DFL – Rochester), will focus on efforts to lower prescription drug prices. Mayo Clinic professor Dr. Vincent Rajkumar will provide an overview of pharmaceutical drug prices, followed by a recap of prescription drug proposals currently on the table and a discussion of possible next steps. Eric Tichy, Mayo Clinic’s Vice Chair of Pharmacy Supply, will give an overview of Civica, a not-for-profit generic drug and pharmaceutical company founded to address drug shortages and high prices. The hearing will conclude with public comments on prescription drug pricing.
The mini-session events – designed to make it easier for Minnesotans to engage with legislators and the legislative process outside the State Capitol – will take place in Rochester, Winona, and other surrounding communities this week. Fourteen mini-sessions occurred from 1987-1997, with this year marking the 30th anniversary of the 1989 mini-session in Winona. The Minnesota Legislative Reference Library has information available on each of the prior mini-sessions.
