RELEASE: Rep. Liebling excited to get to work as 2020 legislative session begins

Tuesday, February 11, 2020

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Lawmakers returned to the State Capitol today for the start of the 2020 Minnesota legislative session. Rep. Tina Liebling (DFL – Rochester) is excited to continue working to build a better future for all Minnesotans.

“This legislative session, we have an opportunity to continue building on our state’s strengths and removing barriers that keep Minnesotans from getting ahead,” Rep. Liebling said. “All Minnesotans deserve opportunities to succeed. When we invest in excellent schools, quality health care for all, and strong communities, the future is brighter for all of us.”

Rep. Liebling continues to serve as chair of the House Health and Human Services Finance Division. In this role, she is working to reduce the price of prescription drugs, particularly insulin. One of the first bills her committee will hear this session is the Alec Smith Emergency Insulin Act, which would provide an emergency supply of insulin at the pharmacy for diabetic patients in danger of rationing their insulin while holding drug manufacturers accountable for the skyrocketing cost of the drug.

This bill part of the House DFL Majority’s 2020 Minnesota Values Plan, an agenda to benefit all Minnesotans through world-class education, access to affordable and accessible health care, safe and inclusive communities, and a healthy environment. The agenda includes expanded early care and learning, paid family & medical leave and earned safe & sick time for all Minnesotans, common-sense gun violence prevention including criminal background checks on all gun sales and extreme risk protection orders, and bold action such as a 100% clean energy standard to address climate change.

Rep. Liebling will also work to deliver public infrastructure investments in Rochester and communities across the state through a balanced capital investment bonding bill. Rochester area priorities include improvements at Rochester International Airport, Silver Lake Dam, Graham Park, the Willow Creek Trail, and Rochester Community and Technical College.

Rep. Liebling encourages constituents to contact her with their input on any issue. Her phone number at the Capitol is 651-296-0573 and email is rep.tina.liebling@house.mn.
