SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, Minnesota Management and Budget announced a new economic forecast showing a $9.25 billion budget surplus for the current biennium. The analysis does not incorporate inflationary costs or the various impacts of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.
Rep. Tina Liebling (DFL - Rochester) issued the following statement:
“With this historic budget surplus, Minnesota could ensure that all Minnesotans have affordable health care, have access to world-class schools, and have the economic security they deserve. Large corporations continue to rake in more and more while workers and families are being squeezed with higher costs for health care and other goods and services they depend on every day. The future is quite uncertain as we continue working to recover from the pandemic and wait to see how Russia’s attack on Ukraine will affect Minnesota. However, we do have the capacity to make Minnesota’s economy fairer and make sure all Minnesotans have the opportunity to thrive. I hope that this session we will pass a budget that does just that.”
