SAINT PAUL, MINN. – Today, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety released their report Planning for Implementation of the REAL ID Act; detailing a list of statutes and rules which will need to be changed for Minnesota to comply with REAL ID. It also itemizes cost and timing options for implementation. State Rep. Rick Hansen released the following statement urging the legislature to address REAL ID this legislative session:
“This report underscores the importance for the legislature to act this session to finally solve the REAL ID issue once and for all. There are no guarantees that the federal government will grant us an extension for current IDs to allow families to visit their loved ones on military bases or for Minnesotans to enter federal buildings.
We have the opportunity to provide Minnesotans assurance that we will solve REAL ID this legislative session and now is the time to work together to get the job done.”
