Legislative Update - January 18, 2019

Friday, January 18, 2019

Dear neighbors,

Committee Hearings

It was an exciting first week of committee hearings. The Minnesota Zoo gave quite a unique presentation on Thursday. Ross the porcupine, Ringo the bull snake, and Nimbus the chinchilla visited with committee members during the meeting. Experts from the state zoo discussed wildlife preservation and the importance of pollinators. The Star Tribune put together a great video of the animals. You can watch the full hearing here.

MNLARS Reimbursement

I introduced my first bill this week. House File 131 would reimburse Minnesotans who overpaid for their motor vehicle registration when the new system was introduced. I encourage you to read more about the bill here.

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Task Force

Native women and girls experience violence at rates much higher than the rest of the population. I’m proud to be a co-author of a bill that would create a Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Task Force. The task force would make recommendations to reduce and end violence against indigenous women and girls in Minnesota.

Rick Hansen
