Dear neighbors,
All of the events that are taking place in our community have kept me busy! I wanted to share some of the gatherings that I’ve attended recently and remind you to put a few more on your calendars.
Ribbon Cutting for Children’s Minnesota
Yesterday I attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Children’s Minnesota clinic in West St. Paul. The clinic, now located at 963 S. Robert Street, will start offering walk-in care in October. More information about the new location and the services that will be provided there is available here.
Pollination Festival
On Sunday, I had the opportunity to hand out awards at the Pollination Festival, an annual event hosted by the Pollinator Friendly Alliance. It was great to see so many Minnesotans excited about protecting our pollinators!
I was proud to present the Pollinator Friendly Community Award to the Dakota County Soil and Water Conservation District, represented by Joe Barten (and Vincent!).
Women’s Equality Day
99 years ago, 87 women from South St. Paul made history. They became the first American women to exercise their right to vote after the 19th Amendment was ratified on August 26, 1920. You can read more about them here.
There will be a Suffrage Spectacular celebration in South St. Paul tonight. I hope you’ll join me to commemorate this important day in our nation’s history.
When: Tuesday, August 27 at 7 p.m.
Where: Clark Grace United Church of Christ, 779 15th Avenue N., South St. Paul, MN 55075
While we’ve made progress since 1920, there’s still work to be done. In Minnesota, we’re fortunate to have many amazing women serving in public office at the local, state, and federal levels. In the House, we have continued the fight for gender equality. This year, we passed a bill that would let Minnesotans vote to add the Equal Rights Amendment to our state constitution. While Senate Republicans blocked Minnesotans from getting to make that choice, I’ll keep working until all Minnesotans have equal rights under the law. I look forward to seeing what happens when the next legislative session starts in February.
Cow Town Glass Blowing Demonstrations
Vandalia Glassworks is hosting a free outdoor event later this week. People of all ages are invited to watch glass blowing demonstrations and learn how to blow glass themselves. Light food and refreshments will be provided.
When: Friday, August 30 from 5 – 9 p.m.
Where: Vandalia Glassworks, 103 Concord Exchange N., South St. Paul, MN 55075
I’ve enjoyed seeing many familiar faces and meeting new people while out and about in our community. Please stay in touch.
Sincerely,
Rick Hansen
State Representative
