Legislative Update - February 20, 2020

Thursday, February 20, 2020

Rep. Hanson

Dear neighbors,

The first week of the legislative session kept me busy! I met with constituents, attended several events, introduced new legislation, and participated in public hearings.

Last weekend I checked out Pheasant Fest, an annual event dedicated to the conservation of pheasants and other wildlife.

On Monday, I met with Greg Bougie and Steve Romanesko to talk about Lifeworks, a nonprofit organization that serves more than 2,900 Minnesotans with disabilities and their families.

I recently met with Olivia Stevermer, a high schooler from our community. Olivia is participating in the House High School Page Program! Click here for more information about this program, and please pass it along to any young Minnesotans who might be interested.

New Legislation to Protect Pollinators

One of the new bills that I voted to advance last week would allow local governments to regulate pesticides that are lethal to pollinators. HF 1255 gives Minnesota cities the ability to pass ordinances that prohibit certain pesticides and require those who apply pesticides to put up warning signs in order to protect children and pets. The Star Tribune published an article about this proposal. You can read it here.

Latest Information about EAB

The Environment and Natural Resources Finance Committee, which I chair, is holding a public hearing on emerald ash borer (EAB) today. Tune in here at 12:45 p.m. to hear the latest information about EAB.
