Legislative Update - March 25, 2020

Wednesday, March 25, 2020

Rep. Hanson

Dear neighbors,

A few hours ago, Governor Walz issued an executive order directing Minnesotans to stay at home and limit movements outside their homes. The order takes effect on Friday, March 27 at 11:59 p.m. and ends on Friday, April 10 at 5 p.m.

Stay at Home

Minnesotans will be able to leave their homes for essential activities but should maintain a six-foot distance between themselves and others while doing so. People shouldn’t go to work unless they work in critical sectors, including, but not limited to:

  • Health care and public health
  • Law enforcement, public safety, and first responders
  • Emergency shelters, congregate living facilities, and drop-in centers
  • Child care
  • Food and agriculture
  • News media
  • Energy
  • Water and wastewater
  • Critical manufacturing

The Governor also extended the temporary closure of restaurants, bars, and other gathering places until May 1 and implemented a Distance Learning Period for Minnesota students. The Distance Learning Period will take place from March 30 through May 4.

New OLA Report

Last week, the Office of the Legislative Auditor released an evaluation of the Department of Human Services’ oversight of personal care assistance, which helps individuals with disabilities, chronic diseases, or mental illness live independently in their homes and communities. The full report can be found here.
