Dear neighbors,
Yesterday, we passed a package of legislation to help protect Minnesotans’ health and economic well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic. Among other things, the legislation provides emergency loans for small businesses, grants for child care providers who care for the children of emergency workers, support for a new state COVID-19 fund, funding for food and housing security, and financial assistance for veterans. More details are available here, and the House Research summary is available here.
This legislation will help with some of the challenges that our state is facing, but there are more issues that we’ll need to address in the coming days, weeks, and months. My colleagues and I will continue to work on addressing and anticipating the various needs of Minnesotans during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
My colleagues and I closely followed public health guidelines when we reconvened yesterday. Legislators were spread out throughout the House floor, the gallery, and adjoining rooms.
I voted from a spot in the House gallery.
Stay at Home Order Takes Effect Today
As I mentioned in my last email, Governor Walz has issued an executive order directing Minnesotans to stay at home and limit movement outside their homes. The order takes effect today at 11:59 p.m. My legislative update earlier this week contained a typo; the stay at home order ends on Friday, April 10 at 5 p.m., rather than April 20.
More information about the stay at home order is available here.
Please keep sharing your questions and input and let me know if I can ever be of assistance. The best way to reach me is by email at rep.rick.hansen@house.mn or by phone at 651-296-6828.
Sincerely,
Rick Hansen
