Dear neighbors, The Environment and Natural Resources Finance Committee, which I chair, is holding a remote hearing today at 2:30 p.m. We’ll be hearing two bills. The first one appropriates funding from Minnesota’s Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, creates a soil and water conservation fund, and more. The second prohibits the use of trichloroethylene, a toxic chemical that can increase risks for certain types of cancer and other serious health issues. The remote hearing will be streamed live on the House website, YouTube, and Facebook. The agenda and other documents are available here on the committee’s webpage. Stay at Home Order ExtendedYesterday, Governor Walz announced that the stay at home order has been extended until May 18. You can watch a video of the announcement here and view the slides that the governor used here. The stay at home order has been modified to get more Minnesotans back to work safely. Starting on May 4, retail shops and non-critical businesses can start offering curbside pickup and delivery. More information about the extended stay at home order is available here. LCCMR UpdateGovernor Walz has approved funding for a project to investigate the quantities of SARS-CoV-2 – the virus that causes COVID-19 – in drinking water supplies. This funding, which comes from the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, allows researchers to immediately start collecting water samples across the state. You can read the letter that Governor Walz sent here. Please continue sharing questions, feedback, and suggestions. You can reach me at rep.rick.hansen@house.mn or 651-296-6828.
