Dear neighbors, I hope you and your family are well and staying healthy. Governor Walz will address Minnesotans this evening to announce the next steps in the state’s response to COVID-19. His address, which begins at 6 p.m., will be livestreamed here. You can view it in Hmong here, in Somali here, and in Spanish here. Governor Walz and the Legislature have taken several steps to protect the health and economic wellbeing of Minnesotans. Unfortunately, there are limits to what we can accomplish at the state level. Since states can’t spend more than we collect in revenue, we need the federal government to step up and provide economic relief. Today, 44 House DFL members and members-elect sent a letter urging President Trump and Senate Majority Leader McConnell to approve a new COVID-19 relief bill. We also requested an extension so states can continue to use federal CARES Act funds to combat the virus and support those who are struggling. You can read the full letter, which I signed, here. Yesterday, Rep. Peggy Bennett and I led a section of the orientation program for incoming House members. We met virtually with our new colleagues to discuss how a bill becomes a law. LCCMR UpdateThe Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR), a bipartisan group that recommends environment and natural resources projects to the Minnesota Legislature, met today to review projects, discuss 2021 funding recommendations, and hear from Minnesotans. You can view the agenda and other materials from today’s meeting here. Upcoming EventsThe South St. Paul Public Library is hosting a cookie exchange this year.
