Rep. Rick Hansen Bill to Improve Lions Levee Park Passes Committee, Mayor Keith Franke Testifies in Support
SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, the House Environment and Natural Resources Finance and Policy Committee passed HF 4978, legislation authored by Rep. Rick Hansen (DFL—South St. Paul) that would allocate $400,000 in the form of a grant to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to improve the pedestrian bridge at Lions Levee Park in St. Paul Park.
Testifying in favor of the legislation was former State Representative and current mayor of St. Paul Park, Keith Franke. The bridge is used for pedestrian access, and utilized by fire departments, Marathon Refinery, and the DNR for emergencies and training on the Mississippi River. The funding in HF 4978 would improve pedestrian safety, increase ADA access, and enhance public access to the river.
“Public parks are vital for our communities, and investing in them strengthens our environment, health, and local economies,” said Rep. Hansen “I am proud to work alongside Mayor Franke and the City of St. Paul Park to protect, preserve, and enhance Lions Levee Park, which provides vital public access to the Mississippi River.”
The bill passed unanimously on a voice vote and was referred to the Ways and Means Committee. A recording of the committee hearing can be found here.
