Legislative Update – June 13, 2024

Dear neighbors,

Next week from June 20th-23rd is the annual Cottage Grove Strawberry Fest! It’s a great event in our local community that brings together neighbors with food, live music, a carnival, and much more! I hope you’ll be able to come out, more information can be found here: https://www.cottagegrovestrawberryfest.com/

I also wanted to highlight next week’s Juneteenth Celebration at the Minnesota State Capitol, presented in part by the McKnight Foundation, Minnesota Department of Health & Ramsey County Public Health, and the Minnesota Humanities Center.

The event will be held Saturday, June 22nd from 12:00-4:00 pm, and you can find more information on this Facebook event page.

Budget and Audit Updates

The Minnesota Management and Budget Office released the May Revenue Review on June 10th, which shows that net general fund revenues totaled $2.1 billion in May 2024, $304 million (16.7%) above forecast. Net receipts from all major tax types exceeded forecast. FY24 year-to-date receipts are now $26.8 billion, $561 million (2.1%) over forecast.

More information on the forecast can be found at MMB’s website here.

On Tuesday, the Legislative Auditor released its report on the Minnesota Frontline Worker Pay program, which you can find here.

As co-chair of the Legislative Audit Commission, I am dedicated to using the findings of this report and others to improve the state’s use of public dollars and looking into the recommendations contained in the audit in future sessions.

LCCMR Update

This week, the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR), met to discuss the 2025 Request for Proposals for potential funding from the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund.

We advanced the top 105 proposals to the presentation stage, and a list of all proposals received can be viewed on the 2025 Funding Process page of LCCMR’s website. Selected proposals are marked with an ‘X’ in the leftmost column of the table.

We will have proposal presentations on June 20-21 and June 26-28 to determine which projects to recommend for funding to the 2025 Minnesota Legislature. More information and recordings of meetings can be found on the LCCMR page here.
